THE hosts won their Fitzgibbon Cup opener by 31 points.
Unbelievable 5-30 to 0-16 win over TUS MidWest in the Fitzgibbon Cup first round tonight.
Clare senior Mark Rodgers scored after 11 minutes to put UL 1-4 to 0-2.
After Rodgers’ goal, Gearoid O’Conner and Sean Twomey added green flags to put the hosts twelve up.
By the 22nd minute, Rodgers had scored three times.
The second half failed to spark with UL’s work done. They kept adding points and won by 31 points.
Due to UL’s domination, they were able to replace Rodgers and Limerick senior Brian O’Grady, who added a point to his superb midfield display, early in the second stanza.
Cathal Downes (Kildimo Pallaskenry), Tomas O’Connor (Ballybrown), Eoin Hurley & Michael Cremin (both Newcastle West), and Patrick Kirby (Patrickswell) were all introduced off the bench for UL.
