Two men have been arrested in connection with a post office death in Carlow.
Two individuals under investigation by the Garda brought a dead man into a post office on Friday to collect his pension.
They took Peadar Doyle’s ashes to Hosey’s on Carlow’s Staplestown Road.
The storey has dominated front pages and made international headlines since it began on the messaging platform WhatsApp.
A staff member saw the elderly man was pale and maybe dead and summoned the gardai.
The Garda stated to the Irish Mirror: “In connection with an incident that occurred on Friday, January 21, 2022, two males in their 30s were detained in Carlow this morning, Wednesday, January 26, 2022.
“In custody at Carlow Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984. For up to 24 hours.
On Monday morning, Peadar was buried at Askea’s Church of the Holy Family.
After the mass, his grieving family buried him in adjacent St Mary’s Cemetery.
