A TEENAGER has passed away, and two people have been left hospitalized following a car crash in Mayo last night.
The single-vehicle collision took place at around 11.50 pm yesterday at Corha on Newport Road in Castlebar, Co Mayo.
Emergency services rushed to the scene and brought all three car occupants to Mayo General Hospital.
The car driver, a male in his teens, passed away in hospital earlier this morning.
One of the passengers, a male in his teens, is in a serious condition, while the other passenger, a man in his 20s, has continued to receive treatment for his injuries.
The Castlebar to Newport Road – R311 – is currently closed to facilitate forensic examination.
Gardai have asked anyone with information to come forward.
A spokesperson said: “Gardai are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision that occurred at Corha on the Newport Road in Castlebar, Co.Mayo on Saturday 13th March 2021.
“The single-vehicle collision occurred at approximately 11.50 pm. All three occupants of the car were taken from the scene to Mayo General Hospital.
“The driver of the car, a male in his teens, passed away earlier this morning. One of the male passengers (teens) remains in a serious condition at the hospital, and another male passenger (20s) continues to receive treatment for his injuries.
“The Castlebar to Newport road (R311) is currently closed to facilitate a forensic collision investigation. Local diversions are in place.
“Gardai are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
“They are also appealing for any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam), who was traveling in the area between 11:40 pm – 12.00 am to make this footage available to Gardaí.
