Registration is now open for the 7th edition of Team Limerick Clean-Up (TLC), Ireland’s largest one-day clean-up, which will take place across Limerick city and county on Good Friday, 15th April.
Mayor of the City and County of Limerick Cllr. Daniel Butler, Paul O’Connell, and Helen O’Donnell, as well as other prominent Limerick residents, helped start the event at the Abbey in Kilmallock. They were joined by Paralympian Róisn N Rain, Kilmallock parish priest Fr Chris O’Donnell, and Limerick Senior Hurling team members John Kiely and Cian Lynch.
Celebrating the much-loved community event’s historic comeback following a two-year absence due to Covid, volunteers are encouraged to sign up early on www.teamlimerickcleanup.ie and help make this the best TLC ever. TLC7 participants are also encouraged to strictly adhere to health and safety rules in accordance with Government and HSE directives.
This year marks the start of a new era for TLC, with a new look, a redesigned website, and a reenergized strategy to cleaning up litter by addressing the huge surge in waste items like abandoned facemasks and fast-food packaging. Following the clean-up, the popular tea/coffee parties will be held at various sites throughout the city and county.
TLC, which is sponsored by the JP McManus Benevolent Fund, has collected over 400 tonnes of rubbish from the streets by volunteers and event partner Mr. Binman since its beginning in 2015 – the equivalent of over 14,500 household wheelie bins.
Volunteers come from many walks of life, including schools, colleges, and GAA clubs, as well as Munster Rugby, community, residential groups, businesses, charities, nursing homes, and well-known names from the local community.
TLC ambassador Paul O’Connell remarked at the launch, “While we are of course looking forward to Team Limerick Clean-Up 7, it is also essential to reflect on what we have achieved thus far.” We are really grateful to every volunteer who helps to make TLC what it is and who comes out on Good Friday.
Cllr. Daniel Butler, Mayor of the City and County of Limerick,
remarked, “Team Limerick Clean–Up has become a tremendous source of pride for the people of Limerick.” It demonstrates our community’s strength and power as we work together to enhance our communities. We’ve been hampered by the pandemic for several years, but let’s hope we can show the world what Limerick is all about with TLC7.”
Team Limerick Clean-Up is a programme backed by Limerick City and County Council and sponsored by the JP McManus Benevolent Fund. Official partners include Mr Binman, The Limerick Leader, The Limerick Post, I Love Limerick, Elive, and Limerick Live 95FM, and are endorsed by Paul O’Connell.
