Schilz, Robert H. On Sunday, January 9th, at Spectrum Health Pennock Hospital in Hastings, Mr. Robert Howard Schilz, age 82, of Nashville, MI died. Robert was born January 16, 1939 in Lansing, MI to Verna (Reed) and Howard Schilz. He grew up on his family’s farm near Charlotte and graduated from Charlotte High School in 1957.

Bob was interested in FFA and 4H, showing pigs and even learning to knit. Bob’s all-time favourite activity was farming. Robert married Sandra (Gillett) Schilz on December 28, 1962. They met at a Sunday School picnic after common acquaintances introduced them in high school. In addition to attending Youth For Christ events and Singspirations, Robert and Sandra developed a beautiful Christian friendship. Robert played trumpet in the Oneida Gospel Church Orchestra. Robert loved his religion and spent his spare time chaperoning and leading youth events and adventures.

Bob began working soon after completing his education, on his family’s farm in Charlotte. In 1974, he started working as a truck driver for Clark Equipment, where he stayed for almost a decade. Bob loved driving trucks and took his kids to work with him so they could have special days with Dad in the semi. Bob spent most of his career with the Eaton County Road Commission, where he was in charge of road maintenance, snow removal, and road cleanup.

Robert is survived by his beloved wife Sandra, his children Kaylin (Shawn) Rhoades, Stephen (Sonya) Schilz, Paul (Phetsamone) Schilz, Faith (Roger) Byykkonen, and Timothy (Stacy) Schilz, his sister Sharon Moore from Bloomington, IN, 12 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. His parents and infant sister Juanita Schilz died before him. Pastor Don Roscoe will officiate at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 5th at Grace Church in Nashville, MI. Following the burial ceremony at Grace Church in Nashville, there will be fellowship and lunch. The family would appreciate a written memory of Bob. Visitation will be held from 3-5 pm on Friday, February 4th at Daniels Funeral Home in Nashville.
