The Sinn Fein leader said she did not watch Markle and Prince Harry’s interview with Oprah and refused to choose sides between the married pair and the Royal family after their Oprah Winfrey interview.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s interview with Oprah Winfrey sent shockwaves worldwide.

However, Ms. McDonald confessed she was a huge fan of popular US drama Suits and recommended people watch the series.

Meghan joined the Suits cast in 2011 and appeared as Rachel Zane until late 2017.

RTE aired Meghan and Prince Harry’s interview with Oprah on Monday night, which cost €10,000 to air.

Ms. McDonald said she’d agree that this money should have gone towards the Irish arts sector.

She told reporters today: “I didn’t watch it, but I am a long-standing fan of Meghan, I have to confess.

“I’m not on anybody’s team, but I liked her in Suits; I thought she was good.

“Suits was clearly not financed by the taxpayer, but how and ever I wasn’t aware that they (RTE) had spent €10,000 on it.

“Certainly, I hear the frustration of artists and people producing work here in Ireland and looking for a platform and hear their frustration on it.

“Personally, I’d rather taxpayer’s money was spent on that, and I don’t think you’d be too surprised to hear that, and if you want to see Meghan, you can always watch Suits.”

Meghan and Harry’s interview sent shockwaves worldwide after the Duchess of Sussex claimed racism drove them from the royal family.

Meghan, 39, alleged that a member of the royal family came to Harry while Markle was pregnant with their son Archie with “concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he was born.”

However, Prince William responded by saying the royal family was “not a racist family” and said he plans to speak to his brother Harry following the string of shocking claims.

In a short statement earlier this week, the Queen said she was “saddened” to learn the “full extent” of the couple’s suffering – but added: “Some recollections may vary.”

Her Majesty signed off the statement: “Harry, Meghan, and Archie will always be much-loved family members.”
