Limerick secondary school launches new health and fitness initiative

ARDSCOIL Rs has announced a new partnership with Setanta College, a higher education institution specialising in sports science and human performance.

Setanta was also confirmed as the school’s new shirt sponsor before of Saturday’s Harty Cup match against Midleton CBS.

Coaches from Setanta will offer athletic development workshops for Ardscoil Rs hurling teams as part of the plan.

Aside from the training, a broader student education programme will focus on raising awareness of the various components of health and wellness among students and employees.

Workshops and certificates will help establish this.
Ardscoil Rs, on the North Circular Road, has won four Harty Cups since 2010.

“This cooperation gives an unique chance to offer specialised instruction across our spectrum of extra-curricular activities, initially starting with our hurlers and then with our rugby, hockey, and athletics groups,” said Tom Prendergast, Principal of Ardscoil Rs.

The introduction of Leaving Certificate PE (LCPE) as an elective topic for our LCPE students has opened up new doors for our LCPE pupils. It also allows us to use Setanta College’s professionalism and deep degree of expertise in numerous aspects of health and wellness, as we continue to prepare our students for life both during and after school.”

Des Ryan, Director of Coaching and Performance at Setanta College, will lead the team of coaches in the athletic development partnership.

We want to promote the core ideas of sports science to the broader community,” stated Seán Hogan, Commercial Director at Setanta College. Thanks to this effort with Ardscoil Rs, we will be able to support the athletic development of kids who participate in sports. We intend to educate them on health and wellness topics that they can use in the future.” It will be presented by Setanta College experts on relevant themes.
