Irishman dies while trying to save his son who slipped into rapids in Australia

An Irishman died trying to save his son who had fallen into waterfall rapids in Australia, authorities said.

Cassan Cowman, 49, went in after his son at Wappa Falls in Queensland’s Sunshine Coast Hinterland around 2pm on January 2.

Bystanders rescued Cassan’s son from the sea, but Cassan did not. He was later found dead.

His three children Ormond (11), Ella (9), and Torin (9), have put up a GoFundMe page (7).

The Queenslander was described as “charismatic, Irish to a fault, enjoyed a whiskey but ultimately loved his family”.
Cassan is said to have gone to school in Cork.
