Irish Red Cross seeks new volunteers in Limerick
THE Irish Red Cross is looking for additional volunteers in Limerick to help with family and community support, which has seen a 7,500% rise in demand as a result of the epidemic.
Limerick presently has around 270 volunteers.
Since March 2020, demand for at-home visits to assist the elderly, as well as isolated and vulnerable households – particularly in rural areas – has surged from a few hundred to over 15,000 visits per year.
Furthermore, as testing with the Delta and Omicron Covid versions has increased, the charity has observed a significant increase in demand for its National Ambulance Service with units, with nearly 1,000 patient transfers undertaken since March 2020 for non-emergency treatments such as chemotherapy.
