The GARDA in Limerick is alerting residents to be on the lookout for a type of theft known as ‘bank jugging.’
Thieves follow people who they believe are carrying big amounts of cash leaving a bank or financial institution.
They then use force to seize the cash or break into the customer’s car if they believe the money is locked inside.
Limerick Garda is recommending individuals to avoid using cash and instead transfer money electronically.
“If you must use cash, remain careful and conscious of your surroundings when you enter and leave the financial institution,” advised Sergeant John Finnerty.
