A CAMPAIGN aimed at reminding the public of the many people working in pubs and the hospitality sector has been launched.
The Licensed Vintners Association and the Vintners’ Federation of Ireland are behind the #NotDisposable campaign to support hundreds of thousands left out of work since last March.
It follows comments made by bar owner Rory O’Neill, aka Panti, who said his industry was seen as “utterly disposable”.
Pubs and others participating in the campaign across the country have been encouraged to post photos to social media today, a date which marks exactly one year since boozers closed.
Since then, approximately 250 traditional pubs in Dublin have not opened for a single day, while the majority in the country got two weeks in late September.
VFI boss Padraig Cribben said: “Before the pandemic, approximately 50,000 people were directly employed in 7,000 pubs across Ireland.
“We want to show the important role all these people play and what they brought to our day-to-day experiences pre-pandemic.”
