A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of murder in the death of Ashling Murphy, according to GARDAI investigators.
In accordance with Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984, the male is being kept at Tullamore Garda Station until further investigation.
According to reports from Ireland and other countries, the 23-year-old national school teacher, who went to Mary Immaculate College, was fatally assaulted at 4 p.m. on Wednesday last, in an act that has stunned people around the world.
In the town of Cappincur, near Tullamore in County Offaly, the incident occurred along the canal bank.
Her funeral Mass at St Brigid’s Church in Mountbololus was held today morning, and Ashling was laid to rest this afternoon.
