Deep Sidhu, an actor, died in a horrific road accident with a truck.
When the accident occurred, the 37-year-old Punjabi actor was travelling on the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway, which bypasses Delhi.
When he arrived at the hospital, the doctors declared him dead.
The white Mahindra Scorpio Sidhu was driving rammed into the back of a trailer truck at 9.30 p.m. on Tuesday.
“Deep Sidhu perished as a result of the accident. “A woman who was with him was taken to the hospital with minor injuries,” said police inspector Jaspal Singh. “He was not the only one.”
“An investigation to ascertain the actual cause of the accident is currently ongoing,” the statement continued.
Last year’s large protests against farm rules in India drew criticism from the actor, who played a prominent role in the demonstrations.
The Rang Punjab actor was accused of spearheading a group of protesters who used tractors to storm Delhi’s famous Red Fort on January 26.
Earlier, demonstrators and police had battled on the outskirts of the largely peaceful demonstration.
Police initiated a two-week manhunt in an attempt to apprehend the actor, with a £1000 reward given for information leading to his capture.
In the aftermath of his arrest, he was kept in jail for two months before being released on bond.
« Deeply grieved to learn about the terrible loss of acclaimed actor and social activist Deep Sidhu.
“My prayers are with the grieving family and fans.”
