It was a day to remember for Moyross native Wesley Joyce as he recorded his first-ever winner at Sligo on Sunday afternoon.

The 18-year-old powered to victory on Hands Down in the Glasshouse Hotel Handicap in Sligo at 5 pm on Sunday.

It was the first win in six years for the Donegal-based trainer Charlie Moore.

After the race, a delighted Joyce reflected on his maiden win, saying,

“It’s a great feeling to ride your first winner. I’m 18 and based with Johnny Murtagh. I want to get as many winners as I can and get as many outside rides as I can this season.”

Joyce is a regular jockey for Kildare-based trainer Johnny Murtagh.

The win came in just Joyce’s sixth ever race, his best finish since he came second on Misterio in his first-ever outing in February.
